Equiniti Group showcases public sector experience at Civil Service Live

23 July 2012

Equiniti hosted a seminar on the topic ‘Mutualisation – Can it Deliver’ at this year’s Civil Service Live event.

Equiniti Group, the business process services (BPS) and IT solutions company hosted a seminar on the topic ‘Mutualisation – Can it Deliver’ at this year’s Civil Service Live event, held at London Olympia.

The session was held as a result of Equiniti Group’s Paymaster business becoming the private sector partner to MyCSP, the first of over 100 Mutual Joint Ventures (MJVs) planned to reform public sector services in the UK in May 2012.

Attended by over 250 senior civil servants the seminar described the journey of achieving mutual status from the perspective of the Government, MyCSP from a leadership and employee viewpoint and Equiniti Group, the private sector partner.

The seminar raised a number of interesting points for discussion. The appetite for the development of alternative business models in the public sector proved considerable, with an overwhelming 84%, of the 250 senior civil servants surveyed, in favour of Mutuals. The response reflects comments from Phil Bartlett, CEO, MYCSP Ltd that there is a desire to 'cut the tethers from the past' and create independent organisations with real growth opportunities.

A number of concerns were raised about changes to employee benefits. Sharon Crosland, Mutual Guardian, MyCSP Ltd, explained that within the MyCSP model, employees were given comparable pension status to that which they received in the Civil Service.

Ed Welsh, Executive Director, Commercial Models, ERG, Cabinet Office, reflected these comments stating, "Mutuals work for all constituents involved. It works for Government who have improved delivery and better services. It works for employees with improved morale and freedom from bureaucracy and it works for the partners buying into the joint venture with improved productivity and growth."

Equiniti ICS, part of Equiniti Group also showcased their G Cloud offering at stand 40 in the G Cloud zone. The company who recently gained ‘approved supplier’ status for the Government Procurement Services’ G-Cloud framework provides a suite of software applications, solutions and specialist outsourcing services.
