Equiniti to expand Cardiff presence with brand new Fintech innovation centre

13 November 2014

The investment is part of an aim to develop one of the largest financial services sectors outside of London

Equiniti has announced the establishment of a state of the art Fintech innovation centre located in Cardiff’s newly developed ‘Capital Quarter’.

The centre will be a focal point for the development of Equiniti’s fintech solutions including Peter Evans Xanite – a custody, investment and wealth management platform which supports Equiniti’s investment business for retail investors and wealth managers.  It will also be the Cardiff base for Equiniti’s resourcing business, Hazell Carr, which provides specialist contractors to help banks and insurers deal with customer services, complaints and regulatory change.

The centre, which is due to open early 2015, will hold an interactive presentation suite providing hands on experience of Equiniti’s new mobile technologies and an academy for the training, mentoring and development of employees delivering customer services to some of the largest insurers and financial services organisations in the UK.

The investment supports the Welsh Government’s strategy to develop one of the largest financial and professional services sectors outside of London and reinforces the message that Cardiff is indeed a capital choice for companies looking to expand or relocate.

Speaking on the development, Guy Wakeley, CEO of Equiniti commented “this is a truly exciting new development for Equiniti and also for our partners and the city of Cardiff itself. Equiniti is a growing Fintech business and with its proximity to Cardiff University it presents a fantastic opportunity to attract tech talent and means we can continue creating opportunities for employment, here in the fastest growing city in the UK. ”

The 800,000sq/ft ‘Capital Quarter’ in Cardiff is an exciting new development space in the heart of the city overseen by John Smart of ‘J.R. Smart’, a Cardiff based developer with over 40 years of experience. Equiniti have taken on an entire building in the complex, ‘Driscoll 1’, with Fletcher Morgan and Knight Frank acting as joint agents for the letting.

The news has been warmly welcomed by Economy Minister Edwina Hart, who said “Equiniti is an internationally renowned business and a major force within the UK’s financial and professional sectors. I am delighted it is consolidating its operations in Cardiff. It is a strong vote of confidence in the city and will show what we can offer companies in terms of high level skills, infrastructure, and Government support”
Phil Bale, Leader of the City of Cardiff Council added: “I am delighted that my officers have been able to work with the local management team from Equiniti to locate their expanded operations in the Cardiff  Capital Quarter to create a world class Financial Technology Centre. I have no doubt that the operations in Cardiff will enjoy significant growth and assist us in further strengthening Cardiff as a leading Financial Services location”
