Our #TheEQExperts series spotlights the talented individuals we have at EQ.
Introducing Caitlyn Van Valin, VP, New Business Development.
Share about your role at EQ.
Hi! I'm Caitlyn Van Valin, and I co-manage the Capital Markets team here at EQ. I primarily work on our client's upcoming IPOs, any sort of capital raise (SPAC) and private target M&A. In my job at EQ, I work closely with law firms and their clients to help streamline and facilitate a smooth transaction. It is my job to stay on top of regulatory requirements and trends, to best assist our clients and ensure a successful corporate action event.
What is something special about your location?
I am based out of Denver, Colorado. Denver is known as the Mile High City, but should also be called the sunshine state, as we get 300 days of sunshine a year! Great food, great people, the best skiing and wonderful outdoor activities all year round. I have three children and a husband who love the outdoors, so we spend a lot of our free time going on outdoor adventures.
What has happened in your career so far?
After completing a program at the London School of Economics 10 years ago, I started working in the transfer agent space. Since joining EQ two and a half years ago, we have seen a lot of organic growth both within the organization and with new clients in the markets we serve. It’s been very exciting to be a part of the forward momentum that all this new growth has brought. I also love the opportunity to get to serve our clients through some of the biggest transactions their company will engage in. In my experience, we truly become an extension of the teams we work with, and the investment of time and expertise is exciting and always evolving! I’m looking forward to seeing the continued growth and new relationships that 2022 will bring.
What do you love about your work?
I enjoy a fast-paced environment and with IPOs and SPACs booming right now there’s never a dull moment! I love getting to support our clients through one of the biggest moments in their company’s history. It has also been a pleasure to work closely with some of the largest international law firms and advisors who work tirelessly to ensure a successful transaction for their clients.
In a service-oriented industry, relationships are key, and EQ truly puts its customers first. I love seeing the customer's response when that fact becomes a reality to them. I think there is something special to be said about the way EQ really becomes an extension of the company’s team.
What is your biggest EQ achievement?
I have really enjoyed all of the transactions I have had the honor to work on, and the people I have met along the way. We recently completed a de-SPAC for Lucid Motors — what an incredible company and mission. When you’re in the weeds with these companies as they work through one of the largest events in their company’s history, you gain an appreciation for all the work that came before to make it possible.
What are you looking forward to in the future at EQ?
I look forward to watching EQ continue to grow within its markets here in the U.S. while maintaining the same level of service our clients have come to know and expect. The transfer agent space in the U.S. has been stagnant for so long. I love that EQ is shaking that up by really becoming a one-stop shop for our client’s needs while also providing that small company feel that lends favor to a very personal working relationship between EQ and the client.
Share a fun fact about yourself.
I used to speak French and can’t remember a lick of it now! I’ve studied in three different countries. I have three children under the age of 5, so there is never a slow moment in our household. We love to hike, ski and are all foodies — even our eight-month-old! I’m also a twin and the youngest of seven siblings!
