Carbon Reduction Plan 2022

Equiniti Announces Carbon Zero Commitment

Tuesday, 26 July 2022
  • Equiniti (EQ) makes commitment to achieve Net Zero by 2040.
  • EQ commits to an absolute carbon reduction of 46.2% by 2029 (across scope 1,2 & 3 emissions).

EQ (Equiniti), a leading international provider of shareholder, pension, remediation, and credit technology today published its carbon reduction plan, committing to become carbon neutral by 2040. EQ has also committed to almost halving its scope 1,2 and 3 emissions by 2029.

This aligns to the requirements of the Paris Agreement and is a supportable target to contribute towards keeping global temperatures below 1.5c˚ (compared to pre-industrial levels). EQ is seeking approval from the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) for these targets during 2022.

EQ has been actively working to reduce carbon since 2018. In that time, it has switched most UK sites to renewable energy supplies, made significant improvements to lighting and data centre cooling and reduced its property footprint. The group has also introduced a Supplier Code of Conduct to address carbon throughout its supply chain.

Reduction strategy for the Group is expected to focus on energy consumption, travel, home working, supply chain and managing waste.

This will include active carbon management through formal governance and decision-making processes. EQ will also seek to ensure its partner organisations’ carbon reduction plans align with its own as a minimum.

Chief Risk Officer, Adam Green commented:

“We’re delighted to finally be able to announce Equiniti’s commitment to achieve carbon zero by 2040. A coherent ESG strategy is at the heart of Equiniti’s operating philosophy and this commitment follows significant analysis by our teams to truly understand our carbon impact. The work continues at pace to make the changes needed to realise our ambition.”
