2023 CGPro Network Monthly Update - December

Wednesday, 13 December 2023

We hope you’re all ready for a well-deserved break!

In this final update for 2023, we maintain our focus on ESG with an interview with the FAIRR initiative. We also round up with a selection of a few of our key ESG articles from 2023.

Anne Marie Clarke Anne-Marie Clarke Director - Head of Corporate Governance

We enjoyed catching up with several of you at the recent CGI Awards, celebrating the corporate governance profession. Congratulations to all winners! It was a busy week for celebrations with our colleagues in the investor relations business attending the IR Society Best Practice Awards.

In November we held our first EQ Advisory webinar about effective investor relations, and we were pleased with the positive feedback. The recording is available here. Looking to 2024 we’re busy organising our webinar to help prepare for the 2024 AGM season. If you’ve not already signed up, please click this link to register.

Before we end 2023, we’ve been busy summarising proxy advisor policy changes and expectations for 2024, providing this to our clients. More about this in our January webinar!

On behalf of the Corporate Governance advisory team and the wider EQ Advisory business, we wish everyone in the CGPro Network a peaceful and relaxing Christmas holiday and a happy 2024.

ESG – The FAIRR Initiative

Corporate Governance Manager, Scott Ormrod, recently interviewed FAIRR as part of EQ Advisory’s own programme of external engagement with stakeholder groups in the ESG arena. We are delighted to share the engagement highlights with you.

If you would like to know more about the FAIRR initiative, please visit their website.

Additionally, there are member case studies showcasing collaborative engagements through FAIRR which can be viewed here.

ESG – Our gift to you, the 12 months of ESG articles!

During 2023 we hope we’ve provided some interesting articles for you. All articles can be found here, and we’d like to highlight a few.

Environmental – Aside from the FAIRR article featured in this month’s update, we provided an 8update on “Say on Climate” resolutions in June and in September provided a quick update on the new IFRS Standards. Importantly, we launched our own product, Net Zero Initiatives, and featured a Case Study of a client who has found this product to be useful.

Social - Guest writer Fiona Hathorn from Women on Boards reflected on research undertaken in her article “Are Boards Equipped To Deliver The ‘S’ In ESG?”

Governance – Guest writer Guy Jubb provided interesting food for thought with his article “Corporate Governance and Investor Stewardship – are we losing the plot?”. One could certainly reflect on recent events and pose the question, where will we be going next, and what influence do we have?

AGMs and the power of engagement

AGMs – Preparing for the AGM season and reflecting on what happened is where we, at EQ, feel we can provide real value for our clients. We run several regular articles and webinars throughout the annual calendar to support with AGMs. Perhaps look at the 2023 AGM Forum webinar recording as you prepare for 2024.

As mentioned above, we have the following AGM Forum webinar coming up on the 31st January 2024, where you'll hear from Anne-Marie Clarke, Lisa Graham and special guest speakers on how to prepare for the upcoming AGM season, register here.

Engagement – We introduced our “A Conversation with series…” bringing more of a personal touch back into the post Covid environment of remote working, demonstrating the value we place on engagement. Starting with Lisa Graham, Head of Meeting Management in February, before introducing Madeleine Cordes, Client Director at Prism Cosec, part of the EQ Advisory business in April. June saw us visiting Emperor’s offices for a conversation with Rachel Crossley, Director of Stakeholder Communications and Partner at Emperor, before turning back to out internal colleagues in November, introducing Will Furzer, Head of Business Development.
