Angela Bridges Contentious and Compliance Senior Counsel, EQ Introduction and what your role is at EQ
I am one of four senior lawyers spearheading the EQ group legal team – there are two main aspects to my role: managing material litigation across the group and advising on key legislative and government policy changes impacting EQ’s businesses.
What office are you located at?
I mainly work in the London office at Moor Place, close to Moorgate station – well-placed for easy access to financial services institutions and key EQ clients, as well as the Royal Courts of Justice on The Strand.
What’s happened in your career up to this point?
The first half of my career I spent in private practice national law firms gaining wide experience advising a range of commercial corporate clients. Seeking new challenges, I then changed tack to working in-house – initially in an insurance consultancy and later in EQ.
What do you like about EQ?
Collaborating with teams across EQ supporting its core values (collaborative, commercial, improve, trusted) to deliver improvements in line with changes in legislation and government policy ranging from data protection to digitisation.
What's your biggest EQ achievement?
Promoting digitisation within EQ with particular focus on supporting developments towards dematerialisation of shares.
What are you looking forward to in the future at EQ?
UK equity markets and the share registration industry are at an inflection point triggered by government policy on dematerialisation, together with major shifts in legislation on digitisation and digital assets - I am looking forward to building on opportunities that arise from such shifts to maximise use of new technologies.
Do you have a fun fact to share?
Competitive dinghy sailing and walking especially in Devon and the Western Highlands.
A big thank you to Angela for sharing her thoughts with us.
