Scott Ormrod Scott Ormrod Corporate Governance Manager, EQ Advisory

Introduction and what your role is at EQ

Hi, I’m Scott, and I am a Corporate Governance Manager in the EQ Proxy Services team. We guide companies through their AGM campaigns.

In my role, I specifically take on the task of drafting Annual Reports and Notice of Meetings, allowing our clients to address the interests of stakeholders, and account for any concerns that they may have. I also analyse governance risks, helping the client to identify key points of concern, allowing them to prepare for potential points of opposition. Following this I project potential voting outcomes, quantifying the potential impact that practices may have on resolution voting. During the campaign I will also engage with proxy advisors to align their reports with management’s perspective.

What office are the team located at?

London is my base office, but I mostly work remotely from Liverpool.

What’s happened in your career up to this point?

My background is in Corporate Reporting, this involved drafting the of annual reports, corporate websites, and even social media for our clients. It was in this role that I began to develop an interest in corporate governance, and this led me to applying for the role I currently occupy at EQ.

What do you like about EQ?

I very much enjoy being actively involved in the current discussions on governance and remuneration practices. As the current environment evolves, it has become even more important for companies to have input from advisers like us to guide them through the AGM process.

EQ provides me with the opportunity to work with a wide variety of clients and help manage their transitions through an ever-changing market.

What's your biggest EQ achievement?

Recently I convinced the UK’s largest Proxy Adviser to change their recommendation from opposition, to support on the Remuneration Policy of a FTSE50 client. The impact these advisers can have on voting outcomes is immense, and to be able to gain their support is a significant delivery of value to the client.

What are you looking forward to in the future at EQ?

I look forward to seeing how the market pressures cause governance practices evolve, and therefore how my role will evolve with them.

What hobbies do you enjoy?

I help run a charitable fundraising group called Dance For Plants that raises money for planting trees and reforestation. We host events and play gigs at bars and clubs to raise money that goes directly to charities like The Future Forests Company.

A big thank you to Scott for sharing his thoughts with us.
